Bussola
Bussola never connects to the internet. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics, and everything you build up in the app — starred countries, scores, streaks and journal — sits on your phone alone.
Who stands behind the app
Bussola is published by STAFF SELECT PTY LTD, trading as CrimsonBrook Games, 3 Alexander Cct, Craigieburn VIC 3064, Australia. Its director is Jess McKenna. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and you can reach us at meridian@staffselect.quest.
Does the app collect anything about me?
No. There is nothing to sign into, nothing is transmitted, and we receive no information about you or your device from the app at any point.
Then what is it storing?
Only what it needs to remember your place:
- the countries, capitals and landmarks you've starred;
- your best score and longest streak in each Play mode, and your progress view;
- the journal of what you've answered and what you've marked as learned;
- your settings.
All of it is written to the app's own private storage on the device. Should Android's backup service be switched on, Google may include that data in the backup kept under your Google account, which is covered by Google's terms rather than by this policy.
What permissions does it ask for?
None. No location, no camera, no microphone, no contacts, no access to your files. Landmark photos ship inside the app rather than being fetched, which is why it works with the phone offline.
What does Google know?
Google Play distributes the app under Google's own privacy policy. Where your device is set to share usage and diagnostics with Google, aggregated crash and performance reports may reach us through the Play Console. Nobody is identifiable in them, and their only use is repairing faults.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. It is a geography atlas and quiz with no chat, no links out, no purchases and no data collection of any kind, from users of any age.
About the content itself
Capitals, borders, flags and place names change, and several are genuinely disputed. Bussola uses the names and facts in common English use at the time of each release, and presents them for learning rather than as a position on any territorial or political question. Facts can also simply go out of date between updates; if you spot one, write to us and we'll correct it.
What if I email you?
Your message reaches us with your email address and whatever you choose to put in it. We use that to reply and to fix the atlas, and the exchange is deleted within 12 months of our final reply unless a law requires otherwise.
How do I access, correct or complain?
Ask us what we hold about you and we'll tell you and correct it; in practice this can only be correspondence you've sent. Put any concern to us first and we'll respond within 30 days. If our answer doesn't settle it, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner takes complaints at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
How do I erase what's stored?
Android Settings, then Apps, then Bussola, then Storage, then Clear data removes the stars, the scores and the journal in one action. Uninstalling does the same.
Will this policy change?
Only alongside a release that changes how the app handles information, and this page will carry the new effective date before that release reaches Google Play.
